1. Protection: Skid plates offer essential protection to the undercarriage of the ATV, safeguarding it from rocks, debris, and other potential damage during off-road adventures.
2. Durability: Quality skid plates are typically made from heavy-duty materials like aluminum or steel, ensuring they can withstand the rigors of off-road riding.
3. Aesthetic Appeal: Skid plates can enhance the visual appeal of the Raptor 660, giving it a more rugged and aggressive look.
Cons of Buying Skid Plates:1. Cost: Skid plates can be expensive, especially high-quality ones. This investment may not be feasible for all riders, especially those on a tight budget.
2. Installation: Installing skid plates can be complex and may require professional assistance, adding to the overall cost.
3. Weight: Skid plates can add extra weight to the ATV, potentially affecting its performance and fuel efficiency.
Pros of Buying Frame Swing Arm:1. Durability: A sturdy frame swing arm can provide additional support and stability to the ATV, reducing the risk of mechanical failure and enhancing ride quality.
2. Performance: A stronger frame swing arm can improve the ATV's suspension performance, making it more capable on challenging terrains.
3. Peace of Mind: Having a replacement part for the swing arm can give riders peace of mind, knowing that they have a spare part in case of damage or wear.
Cons of Buying Frame Swing Arm:1. Cost: Frame swing arms can also be costly, and replacing them may not be necessary unless the original part is damaged or worn out.
2. Installation: Installing a new frame swing arm can be a complex process, potentially requiring professional assistance.
3. Weight: A frame swing arm, like skid plates, can add extra weight to the ATV, potentially affecting its performance and fuel efficiency.
Conclusion:Purchasing skid plates and a frame swing arm for the Yamaha Raptor 660 can offer several benefits, including improved protection, durability, and performance. However, these upgrades come at a cost, both financially and in terms of added weight. Riders should weigh the potential benefits against the costs and determine whether these upgrades are necessary for their specific riding needs and preferences.
Recommendation:If you frequently ride challenging terrains, or if you are concerned about the durability of your ATV's undercarriage, investing in skid plates might be a worthwhile investment. On the other hand, if you're looking for improved performance or peace of mind with a spare part, a frame swing arm might be a good choice. If budget is a concern, consider prioritizing the upgrades that best meet your specific riding needs.
Up for your consideration is both skid plates the under frame area and swing arm. They were both removed from my 2003 Yamaha Raptor special edition I bought new in. Sand is a toss depending on your setup. These were on for a few years, I think it was 2006 did custom extended swing arm, Trinity exhaust and big bore kit.
If you use your quad for dirt and other terrain I would highly recommend having using skid plates.
